Hendrick Motorsports Sweepstakes Winner Roger M. Bean

I was sure the voicemail telling me that I had won the SCCA Foundation NASCAR sweepstake was a hoax … then an email followed, and it was true!

The SCCA Foundation prize package included the hotel, tickets to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, tours of the Hendricks Motorsports campus and Mr. Hendrick’s personal automobile collection, the Drive for the Cure 250 race on Saturday, and the NASCAR Bank of American 400 race on Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL. Four tickets to all the events were included, so I was able to enjoy the weekend with some friends and family.

The guided tour of Hendrick’s campus was great, but the highlight of the day was a tour of his car collection. The collection is about 225 cars in its own space: it is fabulous. While his auto dealerships represent many different makes, his race teams run Chevrolets, so Corvettes are well represented in his collection. Other notable manufacturers were Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, and McLaren. The collection was so diverse, it is hard to remember all that was there.

The prize seats for the Xfinity Series race at Charlotte were just past turn 1, which on this clear and beautiful day, allowed us to follow the action through turn 8. We saw lots of action, including three race starts and the usual fights into the first few turns. The big race on Sunday was a blast! Our winners package provided us with tickets to access the track prior to the race, to see the cars up close, enjoy the concert, and hear the driver introductions. The track had magic markers available, so we were able to sign our names on the track at the finish line. Our seats were in the Speedway Club right past the finish line. This was the final round of the Cup Series Playoff so there was a lot of excitement.

What a great experience and thanks again to Hendricks Motorsports and other generous sponsors who donated the tickets, hotel, transportation, and tours! I will be certain to buy tickets in future SCCA Foundation sweepstakes.
