The SCCA Foundation supports the Sports Car Club of America in providing inclusive opportunities for motorsports competition, safety, education, and historical preservation.

The SCCA Archives contain the history of American motorsports as represented in the official records of the SCCA since its founding in 1944. SCCA Hall of Fame member Harry Handley compiled the collection during his service as the SCCA Archivist, a position he de facto created when the SCCA office relocated it’s headquarters from Westport, Connecticut to Denver, Colorado. Having served as the first manager of Rally/Solo for the club, Handley is credited for originating the Archives and saving much of the club’s history from the dumpster during the relocation. He continued to serve in that capacity until his passing in 1996.

With funding by the SCCA Foundation, the SCCA Archives have been relocated to the International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) in Watkins Glen, NY. As the permanent home of the Archives, this amazing collection of materials is being professionally reviewed, catalogued, sorted and preserved by professional archivists J. Their first order of business is cataloging the  full written inventory of the contents of every box in the collection, with new content arriving as members and their families find historical racing material, such as a fine trove of material from SCCA Hall of Fame recipient, R. David Jones. As material gets cataloged, it gets transferred to archival quality containers as needed for long-term preservation. The IMRRC offers “finding aids” to allow digital searches for materials in response to inquiries from SCCA members and the public. In time, the digital inventory will be available online and searchable by anyone. READ MORE

More than 2.8 million American men and women have served in our armed forces since 9/11. For many of them, the most challenging battle they’ve fought is the one that began when they returned from active duty – the battle against depression and PTSD. Frighteningly, often those battles end in suicide. In fact, 22 U.S. veterans take their own lives every day. But we can change that, and programs that promote interaction, engagement and teamwork are helping.

VETMotorsports is one of the programs that works with the SCCA Foundation and SCCA Regions to provide opportunities to Veterans to engage in motorsports, whether as drivers, crew members, or race personnel.

“Across the rich 75-year history of the SCCA, we have been fortunate to have many veteran enthusiasts among our ranks, and today we have them in every SCCA community across the country,” SCCA president and CEO Michael Cobb notes. “The opportunity for us to give something back to the men and women who have given so much in service to our country is both humbling and an honor.” READ MORE

The SCCA Foundation provides funding to support diversity initiatives in SCCA programs nationally and regionally. This outstanding program continues to expand, with the Foundation open to applications for new programs and initiatives associated with SCCA events.

The Women On Track (WOT) program is working to encourage and promote participation by women in SCCA events at all levels and in all disciplines. Through mentorship, scholarships, and community support, this program aims to remove barriers to entry for women in motorsports.  The SCCA Foundation funds two Wendi Allen Scholarships each year to help two female SCCA members offset the costs of Solo competition for  a season.
